Educational Objective
To provide the GME learner with clinical experience in rural palliative inpatient, outpatient, and home-based palliative care as well as inpatient and home hospice.
Experiences and Procedures
- Work with an interdisciplinary team, consisting of two fellowship trained physicians, a social worker, and a hospice chaplain.
- Provide inpatient palliative care consults at Waldo Hospital and Pen Bay Hospital.
- Round at Sussman Hospice House.
- See ambulatory palliative patients in clinic.
- Participate in home based palliative care visits.
- Attend educational team meetings as timing allows including: weekly Interdisciplinary Team Discussion (IDT), monthly bereavement meeting, monthly oncology case presentations, monthly ethics meeting.
Housing
Depending on the season, this rotation may have housing available at no cost to the learner. When housing is not available through the rotation, residents may be reimbursed for housing expenses by the MERGE Collaborative. See the MERGE Housing Reimbursement Policy for more information.
