Pre-requisite: Open to Family Medicine residents and Internal Medicine residents at the PGY2 or above level

Educational Objective

Provide GME learner with clinical experience and education in hospital based rural medicine practiceLearner will help in the evaluation and treatment of adult patients hospitalized for acute medical care and for skilled-level rehab careThey will have the opportunity to perform clinical evaluation, present findings to attending, develop and implement appropriate treatment plans. 

Experiences and Procedures

  • Evaluate hospitalized patients, develop and implement medical treatment plans. Present and discuss these plans with attending physician. 
  • Write comprehensive, concise and accurate medical notes 
  • Plan and perform admissions and discharges 
  • Recognize and stabilize decompensating patients, arrange transfer to higher level of care, triage 
  • Procedures – Bedside ultrasound, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis, LP (when available) 
  • Skilled level nursing patient assessment and management. Intermittent high acuity care

 

Housing

Bridgton Hospital offers an on-site one-bedroom farmhouse for one learner at a time. The house includes a small living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and washer/dryer in the bedroom closet. 

 

Housing is offered at no charge to the learner and is available on a first-come first-served basis.
