Educational Objective
To provide the GME learner with experience in solo or small, rural, general family medicine, Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice. Megunticook Family Medicine has been an independent DPC practice since 2015.
Experiences and Procedures
- Our practice of one physician and 2 or 3 medical assistants is committed to great access to broad, evidenced based primary care including medication assisted treatment (MAT) for addiction at a price affordable to most including donated care for patients of limited means, access to lower cost medications, tests, consultations and procedures in a sustainable manner.
- Perform Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and dermoscopy to improve diagnosis and save patients time and money.
- Perform outpatient dermatology procedures including cryotherapy, shave, punch and excisional biopsies.
- Meet daily to discuss follow up of earlier cases, plan the day’s work and review topics seen.
- Learn options for care and coverage for uninsured and high deductible plan patients.
- Learn basics of running or starting a small DPC practice, physician medication dispensing and client billing for tests.
