Educational Objective
To provide the GME learner with clinical experience in a carceral setting.
Experiences and Procedures
- Conducting medical intakes for newly incarcerated residents. Addressing previously diagnosed chronic conditions and screening for acute medical needs.
- Providing annual residential health assessments, including annual preventive screening and chronic disease care.
- Addressing acute needs through a daily sick call system, which may include performing procedures, drawing labs, etc.
- Participating in Hepatitis B and C management team meetings.
- Working with Nurse Practitioners who have extensive experience providing health care for incarcerated individuals.
- Observing and understanding dental issues in this population.
Housing
