Maine Rural Healthcare Education Grand Rounds
The MERGE Collaborative, in partnership with the Building-ME Network, is proud to host the Maine Rural Healthcare Education Grand Rounds. Each month, on the second Friday at 12:00 PM, a guest presenter leads a session on a healthcare education topic with a focus on supporting healthcare educators in rural Maine.

Supporting Healthcare Learners with Disabilities
Presented by Bethany Picker, MD
Program Director, Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency
This 30-minute virtual session will overview strategies and techniques to support learners with disabilities in a healthcare setting. Participants will be able to:
- Define disability in a health education setting
- Value learners with disability within a DEI framework
- Recognize the risks of un/mismanaged disability
- Appreciate the role of the preceptor in supporting learners with disabilities
Dr. Picker has been faculty in graduate medical education since 2022 and has been at CMMC since 2006. She became the Program Director in 2018. She has led the program to participate in national innovation studies of FM education including the Length of Training study and the Clinic First Collaborative. Recently, she has been focusing on collaborating with local partners to increase the program’s work in the community.
