Pre-requisite: Family Medicine Resident PGY2 or above 

Duration for Elective: 4 weeks preferred but can offer 2 weeks

Educational Objective

To provide GME learner with a general, rural, non-OB Family Medicine outpatient experience in a multiphysician and physician assistant primary care office in western Maine. Farmington Family Practice is a level 3 patient centered medical home (PCMH) and a designated Rural Health Center.

Experiences and Procedures

  • Our practice consists of 4 primary care physicians and 2 primary care physician assistants, providing evidence-based quality care for infants, children, teens, adults and geriatric patients 
  • Perform wellness visits and acute visits and chronic disease management in a rural area 
  • Work with a family doctor who does point of care ultrasound for diagnostic and injection treatments 
  • Perform outpatient skin biopsies, skin tag removal, wart and actinic keratosis liquid nitrogen treatments 
  • Attend weekly provider meetings to discuss practice updates, medicine updates, problem solve cases 

Housing

On-site housing is offered at no cost to the learner at the Dixon House, when space is available. If space is not available at the Dixon House, then the resident may request funds from MERGE to reimburse for housing in Farmington, per the MERGE housing policy.
